Practice history

The practice was established by Dan Crossley 147 years ago in Hebden Bridge.

We still have in our archives library his day book of 1875 handwritten by quill pen. In those days house calls were undertaken by pony and trap, a world away from the state of the art Internet and digital facilities assisting our practice in this the 21st century.

During the 1900's Messrs Crossley Crosland & Uttley, as the firm had then become, was probably Calderdale's best known firm of Auctioneers and Estate Agents. Anthony Turner, who served articles with the firm in 1964 and went on to establish his own practice in Calderdale in 1971, took over Crossley Crosland & Uttley and amalgamated the two firms in 1990 thus encompassing the best traditions of high quality personal service enhanced by the very latest technological advancements.

We trust that the next 147 years will be as exciting and innovative as the last 147 years in the on going evolution of Calderdale's longest established Surveyors and Estate Agency. I want to take the time to write this review as I feel that Turners have always taken the time to work with me throughout every stage of the process of “where to call home” - wether that be initial conversations discussing options and ideas as to what would be right for me or showing understanding when what I want has changed entirely.

Life presents so many twists and turns but the reason I would always contact Turners is because they understand what’s personal to me. Not only do they understand the value of the unusual properties that present in Hebden Bridge and surrounds, but they also take time to value what important to their clients. They take time to listen and consider all options and put the client first. Having sold and bought twice with Turners, I really respect their way of working. Recently I put my home on the market in order to downsize - then fortunes changed and I have decided to take it off the market (I’m happily now staying with my new partner) - Turners didn’t take this personally even though they’ve worked hard to market my property - they were happy for us. This is why, if we decide to sell in the future, we won’t hesitate in getting Turners on board. The team at Turners know that principles and good manners are where it’s at! I wish I could say the same for the rest of the world!
